Long-Term Rental vs. short-term: which one do you actually need
One is billed per code, the other per day. Here's how to tell which fits your use case.
DiceSMS offers two different ways to hold a number, and picking the wrong one usually just means overpaying — not breaking anything.
Short-term rental
Use this for a one-off verification: signing up for an app, confirming a single purchase, testing a signup flow once. You pay per successful code, and only if a code actually arrives.
Long-Term Rental (LTR)
Use this when you need the same number to keep receiving codes over days or weeks — a service that re-verifies periodically, or an account you're actively maintaining. LTR bills a fixed amount daily while active, in exchange for keeping that specific number reserved to you instead of releasing it after one code.
A simple rule of thumb
If you'll need more than two or three codes from the same number within a week, LTR is usually cheaper than repeatedly renting short-term. If it's a single signup, short-term is simpler and you're never charged unless it works.
Either way, you can start an LTR and turn it off any time from the dashboard — no lock-in beyond the days you've already used.
